A local ecology group with 7 barangay chapters was strengthened and mobilized to protect the Bugabus Watershed. Thirty (30) hectares of open and denuded portion of Bugabus watershed area were planted with fast-growing species of trees.

Propegemus has participated in the Conservation of Priority Protected Area Projects (CPPAP) through its membership in a consortium that won in the bidding for the Agusan Marsh Wildlife Sanctuary Project in Agusan del Sur. CPPAP is a showcase project in the Philippines pursuant to R.A. 7586 otherwise known as the National Integrated Protected Areas System (or simply NIPAS) Law. One of the main features of the CPPAP is the tripartite partnership of DENR, LGU, and NGO/PO to jointly implement the project. The project calls for a strict protection and conservation measures of the declared areas of known occurrence of habitat destruction and biodiversity loss.

In 1997-2000, Propegemus Foundation, Inc. has entered into partnership with DAR in the implementation of Agrarian Reform Support Project (ARSP) in Prosperidad ARC.

Almost at the same time, Propegemus has implemented in 1997-1999 a project called Buffer Zone Development Project within Prosperidad ARC. This was funded by Bilance of The Netherlands. This is basically an environ-mental/watershed protection campaign and a reforestation project (10 hectares) implemented jointly with Los Arcos Multipurpose Cooperative. A quarterly publication named “Greener Pasture” was also circulated in Prosperidad ARC for two years. Since last year, the publication now named “BaniKalambuan” has been circulated to Propegemus project areas.

In 2002, Propegemus won in the bidding for the Institutional & Project Benefit Assessment project of DENR and Japan Bank for International Cooperation in the municipalities of San Agustin and Lianga, Surigao del Sur. Simultaneously, the Foundation also won in the bidding for the Monitoring & Evaluation of Mangrove Reforestation (Physical Validation Component) project of DENR and Japan Bank for International Cooperation in the municipality of Taganaan, Surigao del Norte.

In 2003, Propegemus was invited to participate in a project, which the Foundation was deeply involved in its initial phase some six four or seven years ago. The said project is the Northern Mindanao Community Initiatives and Resource Management Project of the Department of Agrarian Reform funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development. Propegemus is actively participating in its community-organizing component for Non-CADC areas. Propegemus won in the bidding for the municipalities of Alegria of Surigao del Norte, Prosperidad of Agusan del Sur, and San Agustin of Surigao del Sur, which are currently being implemented.

In 2004, Propegemus also won in the bidding for the Environmental Impact Study of Cantilan Irrigation System in Cantilan, Surigao del Sur. The project was funded by Asian Development Bank and has been successfully implemented with the National Irrigation Administration – Caraga.

Last December 8-9, 2005, Propegemus has successfully initiated the breakthrough for the conduct of the Project Development Summit for the project 3 areas of DAR/IFAD-NMCIREMP on the Poverty Alleviation Fund component for the 1,140 poorest of the poor target beneficiaries from the municipalities of Alegria, Surigao del Norte, Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur and the San Agustin, Surigao del Sur. The activity aimed to summon the support of the different government line agencies and other organizations for the livelihood endeavors of the target beneficiaries. The said activity has also opened venues for the beneficiaries on their own initiatives to seek assistance from the different government line agencies who committed to take care of the different components in their respective livelihood projects.

Propegemus is recently implementing Focal Community Assistance Scheme Projects funded by Philippine-Australia Community Assistance Program (PACAP) at Barangay Caimpugan, San Francisco, Agusan del Sur and Barangays of Camp Eduard and Budlingin in Alegria, Surigao del Norte. The PACAP project in Alegria was in close collaboration with the Municipality of Alegria and Lake Mainit Development Alliance.

PROPEGEMUS FOUNDATION, INC. envisions an environmentally healthy society

that is socially just, humane, and free;

where access to opportunities and resources is fairly and equitably shared by all people irrespective of social classes, political affiliations, and other economic considerations;

where environmental protection and preservation do not contradict with developmental efforts but instead go in dynamic reciprocation for each other towards a sustainable development;

where the Filipino people, especially the marginalized sectors, are enjoying socio-economic self-sufficiency, self-reliance; and

where hunger, homelessness, environmental decadence, and other forms of manifestation of the perennial human, ecological and social degradation have been eradicated.

Propegemus commits itself to the society and its people the task of promoting social equality and resolutely taking the cudgel of sustainable development towards a harmonious reciprocation and complementarities of development efforts and ecological balance.

Self-reliant and independent organizations in the grassroots communities that pursue their incessant quests for social equality and economic empowerment in a dynamic equilibrium without compromising the ecological soundness of the region’s remaining ecosystems.
